For a mom who HAS to work. Who has no choice but to work, this book is an insult. Let me insert here that it was written by a MAN! The book begins "It's not easy having a working mom. Especially when she enjoys her work." And it's all downhill from there. The mother is a WITCH! I called and read it to family and friends who were all in shock that such a book existed. Some even thought it was a joke. No, this is not a joke. It's a horrible excuse for a book and a terrible example of a working mom. I am sure that there are some mom's out there who are a living example of the witch in the book but a terrible example of what most working moms strive to be; good at there jobs and an even better mom. I paid 75 cents for the book. What a waste!

The text is terrible and demeaning implying a child suffers in multiple ways from having a working mom. (Studies actually show the opposite by the way, children are more successful when moms worked, but is beside the point.)
This book portrays working women in such a negative light, I would hate for my children to read it. As a working surgeon I do not appreciate being represented by a “witch” and also feel the struggle of juggling a career and family is extremely minimized by the story- ‘mom shows up for the play but always at the last minute.’ Ridiculous! I do always enjoy any illustrations by Tedd Arnold however- which is the only reason the book gets 1star!!!
I love to use this book to teach young grades the role of illustrations. I read it to them out of a folder first so they cannot see any of the illustrations. Then we discuss what job the mom has. None of them guess she is a witch. We re-read the book this time with the illustrations and it is very fun. A Great teaching tool.

Highly offensive to working women. This book portrays working Moms as scatter brained, cranky and uncaring. This book should be banned.
I bought this book when my son was [...]; he is now [..]and we remember this book very fondly. It is a great book because it makes children understand and appreciate having a mom who works. The pictures are really fun also. There are lots of little critters in the pictures and we noticed that the mouse and the spider appear on all of the pages. So the game was finding these characters on the page.

I now give this book as a gift to all moms that are working. It makes a great gift and their children love it too!

Is anyone else here because they wanted to find out if this book was real? Page 255 of Tina Fey's Bossypants, describes this book and says, "I didn't love it. I'm sure the TWO MEN who wrote this book had the absolute best intentions....the topic of working moms is a tap-dance recital in a minefield."
